Have you ever wondered what the hype was around self-development? Have you ever considered learning more about it?
So many people ask me ‘Anastasiya, I love your journey, you have a great path, but how do I even start?”. Self-development can seem overwhelming at first, especially if all you see are successful people on your feeds. They make it look so easy, right?
Well, in a way, it actually is. Let me show you.
What Is Self Development?

If you’re going to get into self-development, you first need to know what that actually means. For everyone it can be mean something a little bit different, but in general, it is the gradual improvement of one’s character and skills. Seems quite vague, and that’s where your own intentions need to come in.
I suggest you take a minute and write down the reason you want to get into self-development. Is it because you want to improve your mood? Do you have certain goals you want to achieve? Do you see many people doing it and want to try it out? There is no wrong answer. However, it’s crucial for you to follow your own core values, and not what society or others are telling you to follow. Take my path as an example, not a guide.

Benefits
One of the most important connections we need to be aware of is the one with psychology. Psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour, focusing both on conscious and unconscious aspects. Personal development is mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth which leads to better life satisfaction.
In order to fully understand yourself and grow as an individual, you need to be aware of the connection between your mindset and your success. Several psychological theories and studies relate to self-development as it is the basis of the self.
To name a few benefits, self-development improves mental health, which is currently at an all time low. In fact, according to the WHO, 280 million of people in the world are estimated to have depression and another 280 million have anxiety. These mental illnesses have no true genetic confirmation, according to Gabor Maté, in his book The Myth of Normal. Thus, it is due to our surroundings, and our brain is our permanent environment, no matter where we go.
Self improvement also improves relationships, and the role we play in them. Looking within will help you improve in any relationship.
Do This First
Step 1 is goal setting.
You want a goal that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART). If you follow that criteria, you are on your way to success. For example, which individual is more likely to achieve their goal:
- I want to be rich enough to buy the things I want
- I want to have 15,000$ in my bank account by the end of 2024
Now, I’m going to insist you write down your SMART goal. You are much more likely to achieve by doing so.
I will leave you here with a thought that has guided and disciplined me since the start of my journey: “You are the only one that can hold yourself accountable”.
Meaning, no one will hold your hand or check if you’re getting your work done. No one really cares. So you have to care!
As you follow along, I’ll get into building specific skills and habits, as well as which books to start with on your own journey. Please remember that self-development is not a goal to be reached in itself, but is a lifelong process. One of the ways to truly know yourself.
Stay tuned!
Love this! Remembering to celebrate the little goals whilst never losing sight of the end goal is crucial in getting the goal done 🙂
Without the little goals, there will not be a bigger one!
Is there any known theory
of daily little achievements ?
“Here’s how the math works out: if you can get 1 percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done. Conversely, if you get 1 percent worse each day for one year, you’ll decline nearly down to zero. What starts as a small win or a minor setback accumulates into something much more.” This was written by James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, which is my #1 book recommendation for beginners.
